Exchange: Exchange Server Versions

The first thing to consider before implementing Exchange Server is understanding the different versions available. Currently, there are two versions: Standard and Enterprise. Here you will see the differences between them to determine which one best suits your needs.

Enterprise Edition

  • It has a maximum of 100 databases per server.
  • The maximum size is 16TB.

Standard Edition

  • It is limited to 5 databases per server.
  • The maximum size is 1TB.

A mounted database refers to the database that is active for use. This could be a database containing the mailboxes that clients use or a database mounted in passive mode. You can create more databases than the limit described above, but you can only mount the number specified for each version. (The recovery database does not count toward the limit.)

Important information: The Standard version cannot mount databases larger than 1TB. If any database reaches the limit, Exchange will automatically unmount it.

Trial Edition
When you install Exchange, it will be in Trial mode, and you will not need to provide a valid license for up to 120 days. During this period, you can perform the same functions as a Standard server. >Another point to consider is that if you activate the product with a license, you will retain all your configurations without losing any functionality. This is a very good option for conducting a lab or testing before purchasing a license.

Information to consider.

You can validate the product with a Standard or Enterprise license. You cannot downgrade your license, so if you are on an Enterprise version, you cannot downgrade to Standard, and if you are on Standard, you cannot revert to a Trial version. Each Exchange license must be applied to each server if you want to use a DAG.

With the information described above, you can analyze the number of emails required and determine which option best suits your needs.
